Wow, what a Day!

From 6 AM on, it's been non-stop with the chicks!  We are up to 10 chicks and still going... 

Here are a few quick notes...

• Of the first 7 that hatched, 6 were brown.
• A few of them took quite awhile to start moving around but a few also were up and running around almost immediately.
• It was taking a really long time for the chicks to completely dry in the incubator and they were running all over the non-hatched eggs.  Thus, we increased the temperature in the brooder to 100 degrees on the warm side and 95 degrees on the cooler side.  To do this, we added cardboard on the top to keep the heat in.  Once it stabilized, we move the almost dry but not quite dry chicks to the brooder.

  • Monday, March 30 - Eggs in incubator around 3 PM - Day 0
  • Tuesday, March 31 - Day 1 (first full day in incubator)
  • Monday, April 20 - Day 21
    • 4:00 PM #1 hatched
  • Tuesday, April 21 - Day 22
    • 6:00 AM #2 hatched
    • 9:00 AM #3
    • 10:00 AM #4
    • 11:00 AM Two moved to brooder
    • 1:00 PM #5
    • 1:20 PM #6 Two moved to brooder
    • 1:50 PM #7
    • 2:00 PM #8 Two moved to breeder
    • 2:10 PM #9
    • 2:45 PM #10
    • 3:10 PM #11
    • 3:30 PM TEN, yes 10, more have pipped.... 3 not viable...
    • 5:30 PM #12 hatched - 9 pipped and waiting on complete hatch
